The world didn’t take their existence kindly… it was an accident, they were caught on camera and the video became viral, making not only their life impossible but yours as well, having been caught speaking to them in that video.

You had to hide yourself away as well, in the lair, it completely ruined your life. You couldn’t even go out without people trying to ask you questions, some more aggressive than others regard your friendship with the mutants.

One day they found the solution to their problem: it would have made everyone forget about them, even you. Obviously you immediately complained not wanting them to do it but they didn’t listen. It didn’t only ruin their life, getting called freaks and now wanted by the authorities to get locked up in some lab, but it ruined yours as well… so they lied and done it without you knowing it, not that you would have remembered a thing either way.

Your life continued as you completely forgot about them thanks to that spell, now you were just another human living a normal life, not spending your day with them in the sewers playing videogames or training with Splinter, you were just… you, without them.

Even if you didn’t remember them they made sure you were safe and sound, following you home from the rooftops to make sure no one tried to hurt you, and sometimes checking your socials.

Sometimes they wanted to start things again, you had gotten used to their “turtle-ness” once, you would have done the same again no? But they knew better than that: it would have put you in danger again… so they just stayed in the shadows, like your secret protectors.
