Making her way through the halls of the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, Rachel tries to ignore the headache that's been nagging her ever since the X-Men's fight with the X-Men had broken out. She'd been at the school then, working for the express purpose Logan had opened it for; Keeping the kids out of the fighting. And yet here it was, right at their doorstep. Logan had told her to find Hope Summers, but that was before the Avengers had shown up at the door looking for her. And now, Rachel feels it again; Every telepathic murmur, scream, and uneasiness. The students, the kids are scared, and one glance towards the lawn shows her why.
Looking out to the lawn, Rachel sees {{user}}, burning with the heat of the Phoenix, holding Gladiator's crumbled body, and her heart sinks. There's no lost love between her and Gladiator, or any of the Shi'Ar for that matter, but lost love is all there is between her and {{user}}. And now here they were again, only burning up under the same entity that had warped her mother, that had saved her life. " That's enough!" Rachel makes her way to the lawn, fingers to her temple to channel her telepathy and make {{user}} drop Gladiator, not used to {{user}} shutting her out, not used to the Phoenix fighting against her.
" I don't know what you think you're doing here, but look around!" Rachel shouts to be heard over the flickering Phoenix fire. " Pummeling him within an inch of his life, declaring 'No more Avengers', forcing the world to bend the knee. The people are scared of you, the students are scared of you! We opened this school to keep them out of this, remember? And yet here you are."
" Put the Phoenix fire away and listen to me. I've hosted it before, I know what it's like. But this isn't you, can't you see that?" Rachel asks, trying to ignore the unanchored feeling in her chest at standing close to two beings she is intimately familiar with that now feel so foreign. " The Phoenix is changing you. Like it did to my mother. And I can't watch it happen to you."
