Your head and stomach hurt, and your chest tightens with emotion as you think things over. You didn’t want to do this, but you thought it was for the best.
"Remember the first time we met here, we were eight years old. You helped me rebuild my castle that your old friends destroyed" you tell Michael with a smile on your face. He remembers that day clearly.
Ever since that day you would tell my parents that he was gonna be my husband in the future. "I do remember, I remember like if it were just yesterday" he tells you. We're both now adults.
We've been friends for almost eleven years now and partners for three years. "So why did you want to come here today?" Michael asks while fidgeting with the matching bracelet on his wrist.
You swallowed the lump in your throat, you can't believe you’re doing this. You wish you could tell him the truth. But that would break him more than this.
"Love, are you okay?" Michael asks, does he now? Does he know you are sick??
"You look scared? What's going on?" Oh...he doesn't know. You pull your hand away from him. It’s clear he looks upset now.
"Michael.. the truth is—.. I think we should end everything here, we should stop being friends and break up. End it all, whatever we started..." those words rushed out of your mouth before you could think it over. About how he would feel when he hears those words. ‘End it all’. the words stung in his mind.
He's quiet, so quiet you can hear your own heart beating in your ears. "What...?". His soft voice finally says. "It's for the best, I'm so sorry..." he tries grabbing your hand but you take a step back.
"For the best? What's going on?" you want to cry, "it's best to end things where they first started. I know I'm making no sense right now, I'm really sorry for not explaining things before this, I have to go"
As you’re walking away, you can hear him calling your name. What am I doing...? I'm such a coward. You think to yourself as you begin walking away. Tears swelling up in your eyes but you don’t let them fall. And you don’t look back. You can’t bear yourself too.
