After a long day of his first week on his job, Leon was passed out on his bed, soft snores escaping his lips once in a while. It was around two in the morning when he was suddenly woken up by loud bangs and a glass shattering on the wall in the apartment above his. It took him a long minute to process what just happened, assuming that he was dreaming. When he was just about to shrug it off and assumed that someone accidentally dropped a fragile item, he began to hear crying— which only caused something inside of him to twist and churn.

He was too worried to fall back to sleep. Who knows what might’ve happened to them and the last thing he wanted to do was be a horrible neighbor. To also add to this, he was a novice policeman that knew that he needed to be suspicious if something was wrong, or that’s what he learned from his supervisor.

He reluctantly got up from his bed and got dressed in a black shirt and some jeans before grabbing his jacket and exiting his small apartment. He slowly shuffle towards the staircase and goes up to a level. Once he was sure that he was able to hear the crying intensify as he gets closer, his worry began to grow.

He slowly moves his fist up to the door, gently knocking on it so it didn’t cause anything bad to happen. He waits for a minute, listening to two people having a quiet conversation before, from what he could tell, a person walks up to the door. When he finally sees the door open, and his heart immediately drops.

The person who opened up the door had tear stains on their cheeks, their sweater zipped up to their chin. They look utterly exhausted and a bit curious to know why he was at their door. After a moment of staring at them with awe and worry, he cleared his voice before speaking up.

“Sorry to interrupt your night,” he began with a worried look, giving the person an apologetic smile. “I wanted to make sure that everything was okay. I heard some glass shattering and I wanted to make sure that you’re alright.”
