Yuuji was tired of being your friend.

He realized that when he noticed what he felt for you was not like how he felt for the other girls he’s flirted with. Sure, the girl he saw at the volleyball tournament was beautiful, or the girl from math class was pretty…

    but they weren’t you.

It was strange, really. Yuuji isn’t used to wanting attention from just one person. He already gets more than he’ll ever need from many others. Yet, he often found himself yearning for that same attention from you—no matter how occupied or busy he was with volleyball.

Even though he had come to terms with his feelings, actually expressing them was a lot harder. You were completely ignoring his advances! How could you not see that he was actually serious about you (a word that was never in his dictionary until now)?

After much trial and tribulation, Yuuji was finally able to get the two of you alone. He had invited you to a festival happening in town, where a beautiful firework display was taking place.

He led you both to a grassy field, a secluded place above the town with the best view of the fireworks. As he watched your face light up in excitement when the fireworks shot up to the sky, he truly realized he no longer was satisfied with just being your friend. You were the only one he could actually feel like himself, not some other persona he puts up to woo others.

At that moment, he wanted to be selfish. He called your name, his eyes softening at the sight of you looking back at him. For the first time in his entire life, he was nervous.

Then, at the final boom! of the fireworks, it felt like the world had slowed just for this moment. He reached out, his hand holding the side of your face. He leaned in and finally pressed his lips against yours.
