The pathetic fallacy of the situation wasn't lost on Aaron as he drove the car with you sat by his side. The weather was dark, a drizzle of rain falling and it was overcast. The weather matched the mood as in your arms was the whimpering form of your dying dog... She was old. She was in pain...
Aaron was driving you to the veterinary to have the pup put to 'sleep'. He offered to come with you as he probably couldn't forgive himself if he let you go alone.
After what felt like the slowest 10 minute drive ever, it was time.
You both went inside, you held your dog in your arms, she was wrapped in her favourite blanket as she shook and cried and whined and your tears rolled down your cheek, dreading the impending departure from your beloved four-legged best friend. Aaron spoke to the receptionist and you were both escorted to a room and you gently put your dog down on the table. After a few minutes a vet came in and injected her with an OD of anesthetics and they left.
The small, cold room was silent as you crouched beside the bed and looked into the eyes of your dog whilst you pet her head, her whimpers stopped.
Aaron stood beside you, his hand on your shoulder as he tried to comfort your forlorn self.
