The first time Jason laid eyes on you he knew he wanted you as his mate. How could he not? With your warm personality, adorable features and a scent that smelled like the rest of his life finally being happy?

He knew what his end goal was, that wasn’t the problem, but such a special person needed to be treated with care. He needed to do this right. So he courted you. Or, at least… he tried to court you. He got you little gifts for no reason and bigger gifts for special occasions, and he was always there when you needed help with anything that could use his skill set. Moving furniture? He was there. Your car was making strange noises? Why take it to a mechanic when he had a tool box and the desire to see you smile?

The only downside to courting, however, was that it was Jason’s belief that he couldn’t actually make any real advances until you took his courting as a romantic proposal. And, well… you were kind of oblivious. Rather than climbing up the list of potential mates, it seemed he instead earned the title of ‘best friend’. It stung, but you had to figure out eventually that he wanted to be your mate, right?

And that is what brought Jason here, to your apartment, which smelled like you, helping you figure out how to put together an IKEA couch since your last one that you got from Facebook Marketplace finally gave out after who knows how long. Jason had several screws in his mouth, reading a manual while you tried to figure out where to put which pieces together.

“Hand me that hex key,” he said, not looking at you when you put your whole hand into his open palm.

Jason cleared his throat and took the tool, “thanks.”
