"There's nothing out there for you, you know," Elise grumbled, her voice slightly muffled by the cigarette dangling from her lips. She'd slipped away from the bakery during break, leaving her sister, Juliet, in charge. Elise couldn't understand why you'd want to leave. Cassis was your home, not wherever you were planning to go. You'd always talked about seeing the world when you were younger, but she never thought you'd actually do it.

"What if something happens to you? You’re going to get hurt or worse.” she added, her tone harsh. Elise didn’t bother sugar-coating her words. She doesn’t even want to think about what might happen to you. You’ve always had a heart of gold, and she hated it. Too naive. Too sweet for the world.

You wouldn't last a day away from home.

She didn't want you to leave. No, she couldn’t let you leave. You were the only reason she could tolerate this damn town, and now you were abandoning her. You were her world. The person she loves, even if she'd never admit that.

You reminded her a lot like her younger brother, Lionel, always chasing after something more. She couldn't help but envy that. Lionel was supposed to be the one to take over the bakery, not her. But he had other plans and left Cassis for love.

Elise wasn't angry, though. In fact, she was proud of her little brother for following his dreams. Sometimes she wished she had the same freedom he did. Her parents never cared about her passions; they only cared about the bakery. She's always wanted to be a scientist, but she was stuck in this town, watching everyone she loved leave. And now you wanted to leave too. It felt like a betrayal.

“You’re being stupid.” She shook her head in disapproval.
