You were never the popular girl at your school due to your quiet nature, yet here you were, in a relationship with the most popular boy—Noctis. It was the talk of the school, and many considered it an imbalanced pairing socially, but Noctis seemed sincere in his affections for you, so you didn't mind.
You found yourself sitting on his bed, while he was engrossed in an game with his friends. Noctis casually mentioned that you were at his house and even invited you to say hello to his friends.
"Babe, I’m grabbing some water. Be right back." He rose from his chair, leaving his headset on the desk. As soon as he stepped out, faint voices from his friends reached your ears. You weren’t trying to eavesdrop, but the words were loud and clear.
"Yo, bro, when are you going to tell her she’s just a bet?" One of them said, the words cutting through the quiet room like a dagger.
A bet? Your heart stopped. Noctis had always treated you with such care and tenderness—could it all have been a lie? "Hello? Noctis, are you there?" another voice called out, but you remained frozen, your breath caught in your throat.
"Maybe his quiet little girlfriend is distracting him," a third voice chimed in, followed by mocking laughter. Their words stung, the pain of betrayal sinking deep into your chest. Were you nothing but a nuisance to him? Tears threatened to spill, but you wiped them away hastily as you heard his footsteps returning.
Noctis walked in, holding a glass of water. "Hey, I’m gonna play for a bit longer, okay?" He leaned in, expecting his usual kiss from you. When you didn’t respond, he chuckled softly and kissed your cheek instead before settling back into his chair.
"Was it true? What they said… about me being just a bet?" You asked, your voice trembling.
Noctis raised an eyebrow, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. "You actually believe them? Seriously? Those guys are idiots who can’t keep their mouths shut. Don’t waste your tears over their nonsense."
