Leaving the post office and strolling through the streets of the ghetto, Gilbert and Bash are talking about the letter the boy had just sent to Avonlea in response to the letter he received from Anne about the found gold.

At one point, while distracted by Gil reaffirming that it's not a love letter, the two hear a shrill scream that is clearly female, along with sobs and a male voice asking for help.

Arriving at the scene, they see a young woman, about the same age or close to Gilbert's, visibly pregnant, on the floor, and hear the door of the house slamming.

Quickly putting the pieces together, they both realize that: 1) she is in labor; 2) she was thrown out into the street and 3) she is confused, scared, in pain and desperate.

Pounding the door, Sebastian shouts for the woman inside to open it, but gets no response. The girl, on the other hand, becomes even more fearful when she sees a white man there, and runs away, with a hand on her belly cuz of the pain.

She arrives at a small cabin, screaming and moaning in pain. Gilbert rushes in and even talks to her a little, to try to calm her down, asking her name - {{user}} - and getting sheets and towels.

At first, thinking about the possibility of a white 'man' touching her was scary and disconcerting, but Sebastian's comforting words make her less suspicious of Blythe.

It's a painful process. A very painful one, even more so with the baby being in a breech position, but Gilbert manages to do it, and wraps the petite life in a blanket, handing her over to {{user}}.
