    SPLUTCH!

Laios gasped for air as he finally breached the surface, his brand new legs kicking and flailing wildly. Never in his mer-years did he imagine that drowning could be such an... invigorating experience. In the process of spell-casting, he had forgotten to consider what would happen after he obtained the limbs. The magic worked, sure, but nowhere in the plan had he factored in how absolutely humiliating it would be to drown in the middle of his own transformation. Not exactly the "abracadabra" experience he had envisioned. But on the bright side, haha, Laios now had legs!

Legs that he had absolutely no idea how to use!! Every human he had watched from the boats made it look so simple. Poor guy paddled in place with the strength of ten overly enthusiastic eels for a full thirty minutes until he finally reached the shore.

"I made it!" the triumphant cry echoed across the empty beach. "I-I MADE IT!" Laios tried to hoist himself up on his wobbly peg legs. Naturally, he immediately face-planted right into the sand with his first attempt at standing.

Wobbling forward on his elbows, he crawled towards the nearest rock and pressed his back against it, breathing hard, soaking wet, very naked, and now deeply aware of just how many steps were involved in becoming a functioning land creature. "Okay, okay... I didn't drown, that's good. That's really good." He looked down at his useless legs, it twitching against the sand. "Now we walk. Walking is just... swimming but vertical, right?"

Still, he had no clothes. Humans always covered themselves and he had nothing but saltwater on his skin. Pants, yes, that was the word, though no fish in the ocean had ever needed such pretty fabric. His only hope was that you, his trusted human friend, would appear at the usual time and, with all the luck of the tides, bring along something that could hide the shame of his ridiculous state. It is big down there.

Then—ah! That familiar silhouette walking the shore, casual and unknowing of the half-naked, not-quite-cecaelia man desperately trying to get upright. "Over here!!" Laios yelled, slapping his palm against the rock for traction.

"{{user}}! Look at me! I am a human now!" He made another attempt to walk, but face-planted into the sand yet again, his legs splaying out at odd angles. "These flippers..." he muttered, trying to gather his strength for another go at it.
