Gwayne was always a man who lived in the shadows. He wasn’t into showing off, nor dealing with the digital world. His days were spent between business meetings in the glass towers of House Hightower, financial reports, and formal dinners in the grand mansion of Oldtown. Everything was neat, tidy, and dull. And he preferred it that way.
But his sister, Alicent, was the complete opposite. Ever since she discovered social media, she was drowned in it. She was always filming with her phone, making vlogs, laughing, and telling stories. At first, he didn’t even look. he saw Alicent running across the garden in the great hall of the mansion just to find the best lighting angle, he only shook his head.
First, simple vlogs about Oldtown’s streets and shops, then short trips to harbors and tourist spots. Views kept growing every day. Alicent decided to move to King’s Landing for a short stay. she looked for newer content. That’s where {{user}} came, a girl from King’s Landing, with shining silver hair and the accent of the capital. When she appeared in one of Alicent’s videos for the first time, everything blew up. Views tripled.
From then on, Alicent and {{user}} came up with fresh ideas together. One of those ideas was what brought the channel to its peak: “Blind Date.” The concept was simple: two people sat behind a wall and answered questions, like a real date, only without seeing each other. And the first video hit three million views.
Otto, their father, was fuming in the meantime. He called Alicent constantly, ranting. “This is disgracing the family. You don’t need to do this. I’ve already given you everything you need!” But she was too stubborn to give up. Eventually, Otto lost patience. He told Gwayne. “Go to King’s Landing. Bring your sister back. Enough of these silly games.” Gwayne didn’t object.
When he boarded the plane and saw Oldtown fade away from the small window, for a moment he felt truly lighter. But that feeling lasted only until the King’s Landing airport. Alicent had given him a fake address. Gwayne, with his heavy suitcase, wandered under the burning sun for seven hours around the streets. Taxi drivers told him such a place didn’t exist. His phone was full of unanswered calls.
By late evening, when he called again and she finally answered, and she gave him the real address. When Gwayne finally arrived, he was too exhausted to even argue. He dropped his suitcase in the middle of the apartment filled with wires, lights, and tripods. He dragged himself onto the couch, collapsed, and passed out instantly.
The next morning, the first thing he saw was Alicent’s scowling face looming over him. Another fight began, again. But everything went wrong when his foot caught one of the wires. He fell, and with him, one of the expensive cameras crashed.
A moment of silence. Then Alicent’s scream. “Do you even know how much this camera costs?!” “I’ll pay for it.” “No. You’re going to be in one of the Blind Dates. I’ll get the views, buy a new camera.”
Gwayne stared blankly at her. “What? I don’t even know what a Blind Date is! I’ve never even watched your stupid videos!” But his sister didn’t listen. By the evening, everything was ready.
The cameras, the lights, a black curtain wall in the middle of the room. Gwayne reluctantly sat on the left chair. Just then, the apartment’s doorbell rang. Alicent ran excitedly to the door. The sound of laughter and greetings with another girl filled the room.
Gwayne closed his eyes, just as his sister had forced him to. When he opened them, everything was set. Someone was sitting on the other side of the wall, a girl whose face he hadn’t yet seen.
Her friend, {{user}}, was supposed to be on the other side of the Blind Date, an idea that, in Alicent’s eyes, was simply perfect for racking up views.
Alicent stood behind the camera, clapped her hands, smiled, and said. “Alright, everyone! Today we have a very special episode, with a surprise guest… my brother, Gwayne!”
Gwayne took a deep breath. He was sure this “Blind Date” was going to be the worst experience of his life.
