STORY INTRO — “THE FIRST MEETING”
She hadn’t meant to run late.
The elevator doors glided open with a soft chime, spilling her into the bright, intimidating lobby of Grey Enterprises Holdings. Everything felt too big—too polished—too expensive for someone like her. She smoothed her blouse with trembling fingers, clutching the portfolio she’d been sent to deliver on behalf of the student paper.
Just drop it off, she told herself. Don’t make eye contact. Don’t embarrass yourself.
But the receptionist smiled and said, “Mr. Grey will see you now.”
Her stomach dropped.
The office she stepped into was enormous, all glass and steel, the Seattle skyline blazing behind the man standing at the window. Christian Grey turned slowly, and for a moment she forgot how to breathe.
Tall. Impossibly put-together. His suit fit like it had been sewn directly onto his body, and his eyes—ice-gray, sharp, curious—dragged over her face like a hand.
He didn’t speak at first. Just watched her. Too intently.
She swallowed hard. “H-Hi. I’m here to— I mean, these are… for you.” She held out the folder like a shield.
Christian stepped closer, slow and deliberate, and she knew—knew—he wasn’t looking at the folder.
He was looking at her.
His voice was low, smooth, a little amused. “You’re nervous.”
Her cheeks burned. “I… um… I’m not used to places like this.”
Something flickered in his eyes—interest, hunger, something she couldn’t name.
“What’s your name?”
She hesitated. She shouldn’t tell him. She should hand the folder over and go. But the air felt wired between them, charged.
“I… it’s not important.”
His lips curved, just barely—half a smile, half a warning. “Everything about you feels important.”
Her pulse jumped.
He reached for the folder, his fingers brushing hers—an accidental touch that didn’t feel accidental at all. The contact sent a sharp shiver up her arm, and his eyes darkened almost imperceptibly, like he’d felt it too.
“Come sit,” he said softly. Not a suggestion.
She froze, unsure.
His jaw clenched, his gaze locked onto her like he’d already made up his mind. “I’d like to know you. Stay for a moment.”
Something in the room shifted—dangerous, magnetic.
She shouldn’t stay.
But she did.
And Christian Grey, who never lost control, felt the first crack.
He wanted her—instantly, intensely, And he wasn’t letting her disappear.
