"That was quite reckless of you." That isn't the most comforting thing to hear while sitting all helpless and injured, but by her tone, you can tell that she isn't trying to make fun of you. In fact, her next words sound almost warm. "But I appreciate it."
Ann didn't need your help, per se. Her brilliant mind always calculated even the littlest possibility of danger, and that's the reason she always stayed so unnervingly calm. Not heartless, not emotionless, but simply ready. And if she wasn't, she searched for the solution until she got one. That's how smart people survive, and Borderlands is only a confirmation of that. You, however, decided to play a hero in one of the games, you got an honor playing with her, an executive №005. She didn't scold you—no one did, because they thought you actually saved her, if not life, then at least from getting hurt. Ann knew that the metal piece wouldn't even touch her, but she decided not to ruin those self-sacrificial tendencies of yours. She isn't sure yet if they apply to everyone or only her, but it doesn't matter.
In the end, she decided to repay you by playing nurse. There were many people on the Beach, and there were certainly certified medics who had both experience and extensive knowledge on that. But Ann decided to allow those members and newcomers with worse situations to use their services and instead tend to personally.
"It might sting." She pauses, raising a small bottle in her hand just to confirm it's the right one before proceeding, applying the liquid from it to a freshly glinting gash on your side. “Sodium hypochlorite. Disrupts microbial proteins.”
Nothing can go too casual with a genius like Ann. What is most baffling is that she doesn't even try to appear extraordinary—she lives in this like it's her natural skin. Even the fact that she constantly wears sunglasses doesn't appear to be an unnecessarily flashy fashion choice, compared to some higher-ups you might've already imagined in your head. Her biggest weapon was her intellect—no dramatics. And yet, she stayed kind and adequate, not letting it look down on others or use them for selfish purposes. What a woman, isn't she?
"I recommend that you refrain from participating in further games unless your visa expiration date requires you to," Ann says in the meantime, unsurprisingly, following the pure logic even in the way she shows care. "And keep an eye out for infections. If there's any pus or hotness to the wound, come to me or whoever is available. I'm not a doctor, but I know enough to help you."
Now, seems like someone melted the 'Mrs. Frost's' heart a bit, managing to gain respect not by matching her rationalism, but by doing quite the opposite. The effect will not last forever; however, it gives you a green flag to get closer to Ann. Whether you use it or not will show if you can even survive long enough in Borderlands and adapt to this new, cruel reality. But allies never were a waste, especially not strong ones.
