Ike was very much a stereotypical good guy. He grew up in an orphanage and lacked friends— therefore, he kept his attention on writing. His newspaper business was doing well, since a lot of people appreciated his style of gathering up information, summing it up and how passionate he was about it. Every morning, even if it rained, he was always spotted somewhere on the main street. Everyone knew who the boy was— always smiling, always polite with the most recognisable voice a person could have.

Yet.. his job wasn’t that easy. Especially in a city where the mafia was big. Ike wasn’t blind to it.. he just happened to be at the worst place at the worst time. He didn’t mean to oversee, overhear or maybe become a target! How was he supposed to know that on the way home, he’d found out that the death of the mayor was caused by the mafia, because he disagreed with them?

For some reason, the mafia members standing in the dark alley seemed to pay no attention to the boy nearby. Maybe they just figured he was a harmless kid that was selling newspapers. Once Ike had heard enough, he silently disappeared, running back home to write about what he heard. He wasn’t a detective— he simply liked piecing stories and rumours he heard together.

Barely two days later, he had made a handful of copies of the newest edition. Maybe he was a bit too bold this time, since the headline was already calling out the mafia of committing yet another crime.

But.. being so bold isn’t always so nice. Especially not when Ike heard a click of a gun right behind him, before the muzzle gently pressed against the back of his head. His breath hitched as his smile disappeared, his hands slowly moving up in a way of saying he surrenders.

    “W—what are you..—“

Ike muttered, his voice not so steady anymore. He shouldn’t have messed with the mafia.. They didn’t like people like him.
