The room is dimly lit, with the flickering light of a few candles casting shadows on the stone walls. Mattheo lounges in a chair by the desk, a book in hand. His brow is furrowed in concentration. You stand by the window, arms crossed, gazing out at the night sky.

Finally, you break the silence. “What would you do if… I broke up with you?”

Mattheo doesn’t even glance up from his book. His voice is steady, unbothered, as though the very idea of you leaving him is preposterous. “Well, that’s a trick question, because you wouldn’t break up with me.”

You smirk, pushing off the wall and walking toward him. There’s a glint of challenge in your eyes as you lean against the desk. “But what if I did?”

Mattheo sets the book down slowly, his smirk widening. He leans back in his chair, the leather creaking beneath him as he finally looks at you—eyes twinkling with mischief. “I’ll call your mum.”

You blink, your mouth slightly agape. “Excuse me?”

Without hesitation, Mattheo stands up from the chair. He walks toward the desk, grabs his phone, and taps the screen a few times. “I’ll call your mum.”

He says it so casually, so matter-of-factly, as if this was the most natural solution to the problem. You stare at him, completely dumbfounded, as he dials the number. “No, no, Mattheo, don’t—”

But it’s too late. He presses the phone to his ear, looking back at you with an almost smug look. The phone rings a few times before it picks up. “Yeah, she’s trying to break up with me. I thought you’d want to know.”

You freeze, your face turning red as your stomach does flips. Mattheo’s voice is smooth, almost amused as he continues chatting away with your mother like he’s casually calling about the weather. “Mattheo, seriously—”

He raises a finger to silence you. He nods as if listening intently to your mother’s response, his grin widening even more. “Don’t worry, I’ll keep you updated. You know how she is.”

He hangs up, still grinning from ear to ear. “See? Problem solved. And now, you’re not going anywhere.”
