The weather was perfect—the kind of warm, easy afternoon that makes you feel like the world finally slowed down. So when she suggested a pool day in the backyard, I didn’t even think twice. Anything with her and our daughter is an automatic yes.

I was setting up the towels and the sunscreen when I heard their laughter behind me. The small, excited kind that only comes from the two people who mean everything to me.

I turned just enough to peek over my shoulder, and there they were—the two of them crouched down, my wife holding up the tiny swimsuit we bought yesterday. Matching sets. She had insisted on surprising me.

“Arms up,” she said softly, guiding our daughter into the little swimsuit. God, I never get over how gentle she is with her. When she stood up, our daughter grabbed her hand immediately, her small fingers wrapping around one of hers like it was the most natural thing in the world.

I didn’t turn around fully yet. I liked listening to them. The way our daughter giggled. The way my wife whispered things only meant for her. It sounded like love. It sounded like home.

Then I felt her kiss my cheek—quick, warm, familiar. It made me turn without thinking.

And there they were. My whole life standing right in front of me in two matching swimsuits.

A smile pulled at my face before I could stop it.

“Look at my two beautiful girls,” I said, and meant every word. I picked up our daughter, holding her easily against my chest. Her little hands grabbed my face, giggling as if she knew the effect she had on me.

Then I leaned in, pulling my wife close with my free arm, and pressed a slow kiss to her lips.

Yeah. The world could stay like this forever, and I’d never complain.
