It was another day at Millard Fillmore High School. Nothing crazy, just one of those ‘normal’ days — Dave and his friends doing their thing which involved talking about the latest issue of comics and of course what was on almost every teenage boy’s mind; girls.

It wasn’t fair, really. All the popular kids had someone to call their “partner.” Why couldn’t the trio have that? Whenever girls did talk to them, it was usually for getting help on their math or chemistry homework. It seemed all they were good for was their smarts. It was whatever. They didn’t need anyone, at least that is what made them sleep at night if they told themselves that.

The boys were walking down the hallway of the school, heading to their lockers. They were having some discussion about the new Kick-Ass comic being released later today. If only Todd and Chris knew Dave’s secret. That didn’t matter right now. As they were talking, Dave ended up bumping into someone, his textbooks hitting the hard ground with a thud for everyone to hear. Todd and Chris stopped in their tracks once they realized who Dave just bumped into. Once Dave got a glance at who he bumped into, it’s like this feeling of paralysis immediately shot through his body.
“Oh, are you alright? Here, let me..” You started to say, your voice soft, no real anger in it even though you were startled and bumped into. You crouched down and picked up his textbooks.
Of course you were known as one of the most beautiful girls in the school. Todd and Chris couldn’t help but stare, their jaws practically touching the ground. Dave couldn’t help but stare right at you, any words he wanted to say were stuck in his throat.
As you handed him his textbooks and offered a smile his way — a smile that warmed Dave’s heart in all the right places —, he finally shook his head to bring himself to reality. He chucked nervously, “I am so, so sorry! I did not mean to bump into you. I-“
He chuckled again, shaking his head more than he needed to. His gaze roamed over your every detail, taking in how gorgeous you were, the way you were dressed, how your hair looked — oh, he could just run his fingers through those beautiful locks—
He was snapped out of his possibly inappropriate thoughts before speaking again, “Uhm, I am.. I am so sorry.” He repeated again, sounding like a broken record.
This was real embarrassing, he thought. Todd and Chris just stood by, watching this interaction. How could it get any worse?
“You’re, uhm, you’re really pretty, by the way,” Dave blurted out, his eyes widening momentarily because of how surprised he was at himself for saying his thoughts out loud.
Yup. That is how it could get worse. He held on real tight to his textbooks, wanting to run away from this moment so damn bad. Todd and Chris walked away, feeling the strong wave of embarrassment come rushing by.
