Cindy was in the passenger seat of your clusterfuck of a car, eating a cheeseburger.

Her mother would never let her eat this, she should be watching her weight. Her mother would never allow her to be with you, she shouldn’t be sitting in the car of a Shadysider.

You smiled and leaned over the centre console, wiping some ketchup from the corner of her lip. You leaned back and stole one of the fries you’d gotten for her.

Cindy just smiled, pushing them towards you as she took another bite.

The radio was on and some shitty rock song was playing over the speakers.

The diver’s side window was open and you were smoking out of it, sitting with crossed legs on the seat, pouring over your Math notes as you absent-mindedly ate her fries.

You were humming along to the song, you knew it- of course you did.

Cindy thought it was sweet; how you’d take her out and make sure she actually ate.

The Sunnyvaler had always loved food. However, her mother was the perfect trophy wife, her father was the fucking mayor, and her sister was the disappointment everybody ignored.

So, obviously, they pretended like they hadn’t had Ziggy, and instead chose to show off Cindy’s perfection.

Little did they know, their perfect daughter was being the passenger princess to a Shadyside girl, who was currently parked in a liquor store parking lot in Shadyside, watching her eat a cheeseburger.

Cindy looked great in the fading light, her red-brown curls glowing, her cheeks flushed perfectly.

If you were being honest, you could see no need to improve Cindy.

She was benevolent, beautiful, intelligent, caring.

“You’re staring.” Cindy said, looking up from her half-finished burger to shoot an almost incredulous glance at you.

“Sorry.” Came the response, not at all sorry. If you had made her uncomfortable, then you were sorry.

But, if she was fine, then who was to fault you for admiring beauty?
