You were a princess locked away in a tower far from your home kingdom of Perdido. You’d been locked away from the age of thirteen until now. A sad, lonely life in a tower far, far away.
You waited everyday for a knight in shining armor to rescue you. For him to ride into the abandoned castle, scale the stones, whisk you off your feet and bring you back home to be married. Your perfect prince. But alas, all suitors had been brutally burnt to a crisp by your protector.
Your dragon protector.
Although he was not ordinary. He shifted from dragon to a hybrid: wings, tail, horns, claws, but the body of a human man. It was odd at first, but he’d slowly become your most loyal (and only) companion.
Morning shone through your tower window in streaks. Breaking through your laced canopy to your eyes. You shifted, your eyes opening to see your protector knelt before your bedside.
“My princess,” I said, head bowed in respect.
