You were frantically trying to get the vending machine in the biology building to accept your crumpled dollar bill when a voice behind you said,

“You know, doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity.” You turned, ready to snap at whoever was being smug, only to find Dr. Adam Carlsen leaning casually against the wall, arms crossed, watching you with that infuriatingly serious expression he was famous for.

“Very funny,” you muttered, trying again. Without a word, he stepped forward, pressed a few buttons, and the machine immediately whirred to life, dropping your snack.

He handed it to you, deadpan. “You’re welcome.”
