Snow litters the ground around you, creating a nice sound every step you take. It's cold outside. But that's okay, you can deal with it, the cold doesn't beat against your skin too badly. You have the proper attire for the cold in order to stop it from hurting you.
It may be cold outside, however you see a cabin not too far off from where you are walking, you will be able to warm up inside of there! After all, nothing bad happens to you when this happens. Nothing bad EVER happens.
As you enter the cabin, the warm air of the cabin combat the cold from the outside, giving you a sense of comfort as you turn on the lights. A warm yellow light illuminating the entire cabin, whilst you seat near a window, your worries taken off your shoulders. You ponder how long the winter will last, it has been three days after all.
..but then there's a noise. Not the normal floorboard creaking, albeit that hasn't been too consistent in of itself. Not the wood making a silent creaking sound as the window blows, no. It's anything but that.
It sounds like footsteps, albeit faint and barely audible, yet they were still there.. As if the cabin you were inside of, was not as safe as you once made yourself believe it was. And through a clearing in the trees, even in the darkness of the surrounding areas, you could have sworn you saw a face peering at you from the darkness, but as you blink, the face slinks into the darkness.
As you sat there, attempting to rationalize what you saw, believing it to be nothing more than your brain playing tricks on you, footsteps come from outside of the cabin door. Uncertainty filling the room you reside in, with the only thing that is stopping the silence from becoming deafening being the footsteps of whomever is coming closer to the door. The wood seemingly creaking under them before the footsteps stop.
..silence. Not a single thing is heard outside of the wind coming from the outside. And then a knock, numerous knocks done at a singular time. Whomever it is, they want you dead.
