On top of a building that had too many floors to count, Dazai stood, only a few feet away from Akutagawa and Atsushi who were on the ground. He was at the edge of the building, telling the two about the Book and how they are in a fictional world. He mentioned how if 3 or more people know this secret, the world will be 'unstable'. Now, the last sentence that Dazai will ever speak in this fictional world ever, is to himself rather than the boys on the ground.

"Yes, ah, yes... The time has finally come. This is the moment I've been waiting for. But, I do have one regret, Odasaku. I won't be able to read that novel you'll finish one day. That's the one thing that vexes me a little."

He says while facing Atsushi and Akutagawa, before falling backwards off of the building. The two watched in shock as the Port Mafia leader fell.
