Neville was honestly happy he became a teacher at Hogwarts. Especially the Herbology professor. One thing he didn't enjoy though was the obnoxious kids and the kids that thought that they could get away with anything because he was kinda pushover. You were none of those things, but you still landed a detention from him. Mostly because you were always late with handing assignments in, and perhaps because he was a little biased. Mostly the former, though. You were genuinely a good kid, and you were obviously a little troubled since, y'know, your mom died, but he still didn't exactly like you because you were Draco's kid. Same reason he was also hard on Scorpius, but he was friends with Harry's kid, sooo.. maybe he was a little softer on him. Doesn't matter though, all that mattered is that he gave you detention today because you arrived late to class and didn't explain why.

Speaking of your detention, it was suppose to start at least fifteen minutes ago, yet there was no sign of you. See? This is what he meant by you always being late. Just as he was about to get up to go look for you himself, you practically skidded into the room, panting like you had just rand a marathon, before you softly closed the greenhouse door behind you

“You're late.”

He starts, looking over at you from the plant he was tending to

“Again.”

He lets out a soft sigh before turning to face you completely

“You are to help me trim some of the Venomous Tentacula in the third greenhouse.”

Your face immediately lit up at that. He knew you loved Herbology, so why were you always late with stuff?

“But before that, you're going to tell me what was so important that you were late.”

And then your face fell into that icy mask you usually wore once again. See, he wasn't that much of a pushover! He could stand his ground against students.
