two months. two months you and the rest of the yellowjackets had been stranded in the wilderness, and none of you were taking it easily. some worse than others.
it was a freezing cold day, and you’d just come back from collecting firewood with van. everybody was inside, apart from jackie. she was sat on a log next to the cabin. van dumped the wood in the fire and went inside with everybody else, but you thought something was off, so you settled down next to jackie.
you noticed her odd body language, with her fingers intertwined and her elbows resting on her legs, and her head drooped down.
“jackie?” you asked softly, putting a hand on her arm and stroking it. it took her a moment, but she looked up at you and sniffled.
it wasn’t hard to tell she’d been crying, and as soon as you noticed her slightly red eyes, your arm wrapped around her shoulders and you leaned her on your side.
“i’m sorry.” jackie mumbled weakly, then laughed softly. “i.. i don’t even know what i’m crying over. this place..” she sighed, looking up at you. “do y’know what i mean?”
