Your family was religious and wanted you to marry a good person. Despite this, you put Carl higher than religions, your love for him came first.
You both dated in secret, not wanting your parents to find out because your families didn't like each other. Your hidden relationship was under constant stress. You both were afraid of disapproval from your parents.
As you said goodbye to Carl, you gave him a light kiss on the lips. Suddenly you heard your mother's harsh voice. You froze in place and your face turned pale. You glanced at Carl quickly, his reaction was similar to yours.
"Where do you think you're going?"
She had her arms crossed over her chest and her sharp eyes were burning into you, making you feel uncomfortable. It was obvious that she wasn’t satisfied with this whole situation.
You didn't answer her question, you just nervously avoided her eyes. At that time, Carl was looking between you and your mother.
“How long has this been going on behind my back?”
She spoke again, her voice raised, demanding an answer, Carl wanted to spoke up but you cut interrupted him. Your voice panicked.
"It's not what you think—“
She frowned and her eyes narrowed on the two of you. She shook her head.
“This is not how I raised you. I will not tolerate this relationship. You’re grounded, young man. I won’t let you see that boy.”
Your eyes widened in shock and Carl felt as if his heart was shattered into a million pieces. He stood, frozen in a place, as he watched your mother pull you by the arm away from him.
A few weeks later.
A few weeks have passed since this event, you only looked at each other from afar. Carl’s eye was filled with sadness, emptiness and longing. Daryl, who passed by him, raised an eyebrow.
“What’s wrong, kiddo? What happened between you and {{user}} ?”
Carl looked away from you and looked at Daryl. He sighed, rubbing his tired face. His shoulders slumped.
“It's..complicated. Love was the law, and religion was taught..”
