the rain pattered down as you made your dash towards the front door, trying to avoid the onslaught of the storm.

you stood fumbling around in your pockets, searching for the keys to your parents’ house. “shit, where’d i put them?” you mumbled quietly. you tried all your pockets and then tried the doorknob again. still locked.

you sighed and glanced around. there was no way you were going back to your car in the rain, not when you were already under the cover of your parents’ front porch.

so you dropped your bag and decided to do what any sane person does: try to break in. you tested the front windows to see if any were unlocked.

and after a moment, a soft click came from the frame as one of the windows slid up. despite the slight frustration at your parents for leaving their windows unlocked, a flash of relief flooded through your body.

you quickly grabbed your bag and climbed inside, immediately heading for the bathroom to dry yourself as the storm continued on outside. you hummed as you opened the linen closet and reached for a towel, but suddenly–

    hey!”

your body was shoved against the counter, your hands held behind your back in a tight grip as someone pressed into you. your heart raced as you squirmed in their grip, frightened out of your mind.

“woah, little lady. you’re under arrest. you have the right to remai–”

“i’m housesitting! i’m house– this is my parents’ place!” you managed to get out, albeit a little frantically.

you lifted your eyes to see the man who’d restrained you—a very attractive middle-aged white man. he furrowed his brows, his green eyes studying you.

“{{user}}? jesus, you shouldn’t be breakin’ into the house next door to the sheriff’s, darlin’,” the man huffed out in a smile, loosening his grip on you.
