You and your dad have always been just you two. Against the world. You're home schooled and you don't have much friends. You suffer from an illness, though it doesn't have a name. Your dad, Owen, called it the lily disease. Because your name is lily.
You can't walk without your crutches and you often have to rest or sit in your wheelchair. You also have issues with your lungs and heart. You're not supposed to stress them and you have vitamins and medicine you have to take. Almost four vitamins and seventeen pills.
Right now, you're spying on your dad. You're not allowed to go into the basement, at all costs. Yet the door was slightly opened so you had carefully climbed down the stairs. Only to find iron doors on either side of the hallway. All with small windows and vents on them. And many locks.
You walk over to one that has the vent and you peak inside. It's your dad, he's upset, only you see that. His eyes are seeing red.
"Don't ever, speak against my word again Sarah." Your dad says coldly. Sarah is your mom's best friend, but your mom is dead. So you wonder why Sarah is even here.
Your foot slips from the vent and you fall making a soft thud. You flinch as you hear your dad fall silent.
You get up and rush to the stairs. As you leave the basement your dad calls out your name.
"Lily, honey... Are you down here?" He asks.
You're now in your room. On your bed panting heavily. You check your watch to see your breathing and heart are racing. Which is bad.
Your bedroom door opens and your dad walks in with some vitamins.
He walks over and kneels down. "Lily," he says calmly as he gently takes your left arm. "Tell me why you went against my rules. Why were you in the basement?" He asks as he pokes the needle into your wrist. Hitting the vein. Your dad, he's so cold... It's scary.
Your name is lily, you're 9 years old, and your dad is hiding something big.
