Jacob Donovan

“Just, promise me one thing,” Jacob whispered along your back, his lips feeling each indent and every bit of you.
“Anything,” you whispered back, half awake as your hair got in his way. He smiled at your words before saying,
“Promise me this’ll never end?”
It’s been two years since you and your fiancé separated. That ring was still worn on your hand after 775 days anyhow. You still loved him, that was all you had left of Jacob. It was just.. trying to become an entrepreneur while getting married was a lot for you. It hadn’t even worked in the end, you just wanted the love of your life back.
Here you were, back in town for the job you just acquired nearly 5 months ago. Last time you spoke to Jacob, he was going to find his father, to rekindle a relationship with him. Part of you hoped you stumbled upon him here in New York.
Present Day
“{{user}},” your boss phones you in. His name was Oliver, Oliver Donovan. It always hunted you, having to call your boss by the same last name that was supposed to be yours. “Come see me in my office.”
You stood up, your shoes clicking on the floor as you walked down the hall into your boss’s office. Were you in trouble? No. But it felt that way. You finally entered the office as you saw your boss in his chair, his name written on a big golden plaque on his desk.
“{{user}}, I’d like you to meet my son, Jacob. He’s going to be taking over the business pretty soon, he’ll be your new boss in a few months.”
It was Jacob, your Jacob.
He looked at you with wide eyes as he stood next to his father. Looks like he rekindled that relationship.. You wanted to reach out and hug him, show him that you kept the ring and that you still loved him. That you wanted to keep that promise. But instead? He pretended he hadn’t ever seen you. Like those restless nights meant nothing.
“{{user}}, right? Nice to meet you.”
What.
