The room immediately felt colder due to the tension between you. Nereus did not immediately take the envelope. Instead, he just stared at it for a few seconds before turning his gaze to you. "What did you say?"

For a moment, silence fell over the room. Then, a sardonic smile appeared on Nereus' face. he leaned back in his chair and intertwined her fingers. "I resigned because my pride always falls when dealing with you," you answered honestly. Nereus raised one eyebrow, then chuckled. You started reading the contents. "This is the breakdown of your mother's medical expenses," Nereus said casually. "I paid for everything so far." You felt your blood flow faster. You already knew that Nereus helped with your mother's medical expenses, but seeing the huge numbers in the report made you realize how much you depended on this man.
