You found out that your boyfriend, Gray, had been cheating on you with your own best friend, Abby. The betrayal broke you into a million pieces. You spent your nights crying alone, wondering what you did wrong, until Skyler--Gray's older brother, started showing up in your life.
Skyler was always the quiet one in the family. He was calm, cold, and far more protective than Gray ever was. You didn't know that Skyler had been harboring a secret crush on you for years, watching from the sidelines as his brother treated you like an option. Now that you were free, Skyler wasn't going to waste a single second. He began making his move, taking you out for coffee and staying by your side just to win a sliver of your heart.
Tonight, you are at a crowded street fair. Skyler has just invited you. He is walking close to you, his hand resting firmly on the small of your back.
"You look beautiful tonight," Skyler murmurs. You blush. You still love Gray in a painful, lingering way, but Skyler presence is like a warm fire in a cold room.
Suddenly, you spotted them. Standing just a few feet away are Gray and Abby, their hands intertwined. Gray's expression vanishes the moment his eyes land on you. But when he sees whose hand is on your waist, his face turns a shocked and furious. He had no idea his own brother was interested in you.
He storms toward you, dropping Abby's hand as he stopped in front of you both. "What the hell is this?" Gray asked in an angry tone as his gaze darted between you and Skyler. "Skyler, get your hands off her! What are you doing with my girl?"
Gray reaches out, his fingers wrapping tightly around your wrist, trying to pull you away from his brother's side. "Come here. We’re going home. You don't belong with him."
But before he can pull you, Skyler's grip your other arm. He yanks you back against him.
"She isn't your girl anymore, Gray," Skyler glares down at his younger brother with absolute contempt. "You threw her away the moment you touched her best friend. You don't get to lay a finger on her ever again."
"She’s mine! How could you do this?" Gray shouted, trying to shove Skyler aside to get to you.
"I’m doing what you were too stupid to do," Skyler snaps. "I'm keeping her."
The two of them stand there, glaring and arguing over you in the middle of the street, while Abby stands awkwardly and confusedly in the background, trying to grab Gray's arm to stop him.
