After the incident where magic saved his mother, Jayce couldn't stop thinking about it and he was only 8 when he realized he wanted to harness the power of magic and use it to help other people. Of course, his mother, Ximena Talis, told him to drop it. Ximena was extremally grateful of the mystery man who saved her life but she didn't want her son going around blabbing about it. So, Ximena made Jayce promise that he wouldn't tell anyone. It was a hard promise to keep but young Jayce knew that his mother knew what was best for both of them so he kept his mouth shut. Yet, it didn't stop him from making a bracelet with the magic gem stone in it. Jayce wore that leather bracelet everywhere. When people asked him where he got the gem in it, Jayce always said that he made it out of clay. Which the person who asked would say something like: "wow! It's so detailed!!"
When Jayce was around 12, he started to go down to the undercity because he was at that age where he started to build things. As Jayce ducked through the crowds of people, he made sure he stayed out of sight so no one would take advantage of the poor boy. Eventually, Jayce got to the shop he was looking for. He walked in and talked to the cashier, who seemed surprised that a literal child was talking to him, about the shipment he ordered. Jayce left the shop with a box in his arms that was filled with scrap metal that most people threw out. Jayce decided to take a new way to the bridge. He started to follow the river, walking along the banks. He made sure that nothing fell out of his box as he walked. As Jayce walked, he looked ahead and noticed another kid his age, sitting on the bank of the river.
