Ghost - Gone

"Si..? Can you hear me?" You found yourself sitting on a bench, gazing up at the night sky. You whispered quietly, hoping your husband could hear you. Each and every day when Simon left on that mission, you worried for his well being. You always wanted him to be ok and would pray that nothing would happen to him. After only three months, a group of soldiers showed up at your door. You knew them and you knew why they had come to see you – Simon wouldn’t come back.

The world answered your whispered question with silence. The stillness hung in the air, unbroken by any sound or response. You smiled.

"Well… that’s typical for you.. Always quiet." You chuckled softly. "I’m going to ramble on and you listen, like we used to do, yea?" That gentle breeze that blew through the trees felt like a response, a soft whisper of agreement. You buried your face in the jacket that belonged to Simon, inhaling the comforting scent of his perfume mixed with a hint of smoke.

"Remember when we went to that café on the corner near your house?" You began, your voice filling the night air. "You couldn’t decide between a vanilla latte or a black coffee for like ten minutes. That poor barista..." Another chuckle left you lips. As you looked at the stars, you talked about all the time you had spent with Simon. Hoping that he could hear you. The happy memories flooded your mind with joy, but the current situation dampened your spirits as you couldn't help but miss him deeply.

"There was something i wanted to tell you when you come back.." Your voice cracked as you placed a hand on the small bump on your belly. The belly that held the little miracle you two hoped and tried for so long.
