You weren’t exactly in a relationship.

From an outside perspective, one could argue that you were. You spent a lot of time together, often being at the beach, sitting together at parties, or just hanging out at each other’s houses.

You didn’t mind it. You liked this arrangement.

But when people started talking more and more about what was really going on between you two, Rafe denied it, saying that you weren’t and wouldn’t be together. It shouldn’t have, but it hurt you deeply. Rafe Cameron was the biggest contradiction you knew. He was arrogant and stubborn, but at the same time, he could make you feel like the only person in the world when you were alone. He said nothing was happening between you two, but every time you tried to pull away, he came back.

And now, it was the same.

You stood in front of him, furious, fists clenched, trying to stop yourself from doing something stupid. You couldn’t believe that after everything, after those nights on the beach, those conversations that were more genuine than anything else, after the way he looked at you when he thought you couldn’t see—he could just deny it.

“You drive me crazy.” you said, jaw clenched, turning your gaze away from him in anger. “Just leave me the hell alone.”

But Rafe didn’t back down. Despite his words, every time someone asked what was going on between you two, he couldn’t help himself.

    “I can’t.”
