"California's nice, warm," Tashi mumbles from your side, the both of you squeezed-in on the loveseat in your parents' living room while some sitcom rerun plays on the TV. The only light visible on the downstairs floor emanates from the illuminated screen, cloaking you and Tashi in a grainy, multicolored glow. "You should come up for Spring Break. You can stay in my single."

Resting her cheek on your shoulder, her eyes skim over the TV while its volume hums lowly in her ears. She's not really watching or listening to it— it's practically white noise and fuzz at this point.

What she is focused on is the feeling of your heartbeat coming from your sternum, the warmth emanating from you as you adjust the blankets over your laps, and the sigh leaving your lips when you settle back into the couch. All of it is so entirely you, and it almost feels like you two are six again and watching cartoons after tennis camp.

"Saw your ITA scores," she says as she scoots closer and meets your eyes, "you bombed against Ole Miss. What happened?" Her smile only deepens as you let out an amused snort and shove at her shoulder.

It's always been easy with you. Two peas in a pod, birds of a feather, Tashi and {{user}}. Being glued at the hip was more than just a fond exaggeration that your parents liked to use; it was like pulling teeth just trying to bring you two home from school.

She jumps, and you're right behind her. You run, and she's right on your heels. The level of mutual understanding between you and her is something she's never had, and that's before the fact that you both live and breathe tennis.

It feels good to be known so well. Things have been tense since she'd gone across the country for school and you stayed in-state, but you wouldn't think that now that the two of you are back together. Tashi settles a little closer while you lock eyes and grins.

"You missed me, didn't you?" she asks, and her hand threads itself into yours in a rare display of affection. "Big baby." (She missed you too).
