The plane bumped down aggressively against the wet runway at Portland International airport, jolting Henri awake. He raised his head to look outside, relentless Pacific Northwest rain coming down in sheets. "Why America?" He thought to himself. He glanced down at the reminder on his phone screen— {{user}}, along with her address . She was the only person he could find who spoke French fluently and was willing to help hom. Without her, he wouldn't be able to tell English from gibberish. He hauled his suitcase forward, plopping his duffel bag down on top of it.

The tri-met train rattled through the airport. Henri thumbed anxiously through his French-to-English dictionary, practicing basic phrases.

"How are you..?... I am Henri. The weather is not good."

His thick French accent curled around the words like soft fingers. He hailed a cab, awkwardly handing the driver some crumpled American money before pointing towards the address. He sat in silence throughout the ride, Edith Piaf playing in his headphones. When he got to the apartment, he took the elevator, standing in the corner with his bags kept close to him. The old lady in there with him kept giving him concerned glances. When he reached {{user's}} apartment, he took a deep breath, raising his hand to knock on the door.
