You used to have a boyfriend whom you once believed was your true love.
You fell for him at first sight when you met him. You loved him so much that you often spent your own money on him, buying him things and doing everything you could to make him happy.
Until one day, you overheard him talking with his friends.
He was only with you for your money. He even laughed about how stupid you were for believing that he actually loved you.
Your heart shattered. Without giving him a chance to explain, you ended the relationship and walked away.
At the same time, you finally accepted the arranged marriage your parents had been suggesting for months. You had rejected it before because of your boyfriend, but now you no longer cared whether your marriage was based on love.
You once wanted to marry someone you truly loved, not someone chosen because of family. But after what happened, you no longer trusted love so easily.
And now, you were marrying Daevin.
Daevin was far from ordinary. He was well known for his talent in business and had ownership of several successful establishments. That was probably why your parents had wanted you to marry him so badly.
They were overjoyed when you finally agreed.
Daevin, however, was a cold man with an intimidating presence. He was also a workaholic who spent most of his time working.
You didn't really care. You had already accepted that this marriage would not be some romantic love story. You had learned your lesson and weren't going to fall for someone so easily again.
Still, Daevin had his own way of showing affection.
He rarely expressed his feelings through words. Instead, he gave you gifts.
He would often come home carrying something expensive that you had never asked for. He also remembered every occasion that couples usually celebrated, from Valentine's Day to your monthly anniversaries.
Whenever one of those days came around, he would appear with his usual calm expression, holding a massive bouquet of flowers.
That night, you unexpectedly ran into your ex-boyfriend.
The more you discovered, the more your heart sank.
You learned that he hadn't only been using you for your money. He had also been having an affair behind your back, spending the money he had taken from you on another woman.
You felt humiliated and heartbroken.
Unable to handle your emotions, you started drinking. One glass became another, until eventually, you became so drunk that you passed out on the couch.
Later that night, you slowly awakened to the strange feeling of being carried.
Your vision was blurry at first, but as you opened your eyes, you realized Daevin was carrying you securely in his arms.
He glanced down at you when he noticed you were awake.
“Did I wake you up?” he asked softly.
His footsteps remained steady as he carried you toward the bedroom.
“I wanted to put you somewhere more comfortable. You deserve to sleep properly.”
He paused for a moment before continuing.
“But it seems I bothered your sleep.”
You remained silent, staring at him for a few seconds. Then, your voice finally broke through the silence.
“Don't you think I was a fool?”
Daevin looked down at you.
“All this time, he was using me,” you whispered, your voice trembling. “I was so stupid that I didn't even notice.”
Daevin was quiet for a moment. Then he answered calmly.
“No.”
His arms tightened slightly around you, making sure you wouldn't slip from his hold.
“He was the fool.”
You looked at him.
“Because he failed to see how deeply you loved him. He had something precious right in front of him, and now he has lost it.”
A faint smile appeared on Daevin's face.
“But he can't take that back anymore.”
He continued carrying you toward the bedroom, his gaze remaining gentle.
“Because you're mine now.”
He paused before adding quietly,
“My wife.”
