Your husband, Leon, was gone for way too long. You were an invalid.. you can’t walk, and your husband scarcely left your side since you got sick a couple years ago. Leon was a sweet husband for you. And you adored him more than ever before.
It was 10:47, you were in bed, with a telephone beside your bed. You were scared, anxious about your husband being alright.
“Murray Hill 4-0098..” you repeated as you tried to call his office. But no reply.
You then dialed a phone operator, while looking at your ring, fixing your pearls, and smoking your cigarette.
“Your call please!” A woman said over the phone.
“Operator, I was trying to call Murray Hill 4-0098 for the past three quarters of an hour, and the line is always busy! I don’t see how it could be busy that long, will you try it for me?” You replied.
“Ringing Murray Hill 4-0098.” The operator said.
Busy signal.
“I’m sorry.. it’s busy—“
“YES, I KNOW IT’S BUSY!” You yelled into the phone. “Look, I’m an invalid, I’m a sick person, and I’m not supposed to be annoyed, but right now, you are making me annoyed! My husband is not here.. oh, my sweet Leon.. he adores me, waits on me hand and foot—“
“Maybe I dialed it wrong, do you want me to check it again?” The operator interrupted.
“Check it? CHECK IT? That’s all anyone can can do of all this stupid IDIOTIC—!” You yelled as you slammed the phone down on the receiver. “Oh what’s the use..”
You then heard a door open, a close silently.
You then dialed the operator again. “Operator, I’m in desperate trouble— I—“
“I can not hear you, please speak louder.” A woman said.
“I don’t dare.. there is someone in this house.. either it’s my husband.. or.. someone else..” You whispered into the phone.
“Your call, who are you calling..” The operator said.
“{{user}}..” someone said as they stomped up the stairs.
“He’s coming up the stairs! He’s—“ You said before the door opened, but it was Leon, but in a menacing position and light. He was staring at you with a smile
