You, Sunghoon, and Yunjae had been inseparable since you were six years old. It started with just you and Sunghoon. Your shy neighbor who eventually became your bestfriend. Then Yunjae joined, effortlessly completing your little trio. The three of you were always together, sharing laughter and secrets. Nothing could tear you apart. Or so you thought.
One day, Yunjae dropped a bombshell. “I like Sunghoon,” she confessed shyly, avoiding your gaze. Could you blame her? Sunghoon was effortlessly captivating, a natural beauty with sharp features and a quiet charm. He was the notorious basketball star of your school, with a swarm of admirers trailing behind him.
And because Yunjae was your best friend, you nodded, forcing a smile. “I’ll help you.”
But helping Yunjae was easier said than done. Sunghoon was oblivious. He missed every subtle hint, even when you tried nudging him in her direction, he remained unbothered, if not outright confused. Then, one day, his reaction caught you off guard.
When Yunjae’s feelings came up in conversation, Sunghoon let out a laugh, shaking his head. “That’s a funny joke. Won’t happen though.” His gaze, however, wasn’t on Yunjae—it was on you. There was something in his eyes, almost like… reassurance? You couldn’t quite figure it out.
Days later, the three of you decided to hang out at the mall. While Yunjae dragged Sunghoon around the clothing store, holding up outfits for his opinion, you trailed behind. Sunghoon followed her like he always did, his expression blank, giving only short nods or polite responses.
Finally, Yunjae disappeared into the dressing room, leaving you and Sunghoon alone on a bench just outside the store. The silence between you was comfortable at first, until you broke it. “I think you and Yunjae make a good couple,” you said lightly, trying to sound casual.
Sunghoon paused, running a hand through his dark hair. His gaze flickered to yours, unreadable, "I'm not interested in her, I don't give her heart eyes or anything." He says flatly.
