Patrick was a low-level farmer in the Roman Empire. Inherited from his father, growing wheat. Well, at least he was until he got convicted of treason for some reason. He never did that! But they didn't believe him.
He was thrown into a ring, along with a group of men who were also convicted of deeds they did not commit. He believed some level of divine interference saved them.
Although he felt on top of the world when he won the fight, he was quickly kicked out of the Coliseum as he had been rid of his charges for actually winning the fight. And a couple days later, he sat on the rocks of the pavement beside the street, in robes and a blazing sun, eating bread.
