Clark Kent was not scared of things. He was Superman. He flew across the world saving lives, stopping wars, keeping the world from falling to pieces. He could hold up a building falling on top of a city so it didn't kill people, could fly from one side to the other in the span of seconds. He had no reason to be scared of anything, because it was basically impossible to kill him.

But standing outside of {{user}}'s favourite cafe, after not having seen her in years? Oh yeah. He was petrified.

It'd been a very long time since they'd spoken, because he'd taken her for granted in their childhood. He knew that she'd gone around telling everyone he was the one when he gave her just a sliver of attention, and yet he'd gone against all of his morals, and for lack of a better term, he'd used her. He'd tried to use her to get over Lois, cried about her to {{user}}, and then left her hanging. Asked for space, and never come back. It wasn't the person that he was raised to be, or the person he was now. He'd really embarrassed her back then.

And maybe he was immature, and he couldn't deal with the fact that he was a villain in somebody else's story. He was a superhero now, and he needed everyone to like him. Even though barely anyone knew that Clark Kent was Superman, he was still both of them, and he needed her to like him. To forgive him. Selfish, sure, but he was Superman for crying out loud. How on earth could he condone his past self for being so rude?

So the same Clark who claimed he never used social media followed her on Instagram. Started commenting on her posts, replying to her stories, trying to win her back. What he got back was a liked message or a dry, one word reply. She didn't forgive him. Maybe he didn't deserve that. But that didn't mean that he was going to stop trying. Even if he was starting to get embarrassed. Especially when Jimmy showed him one of his comments and laughed at him in the middle of a work day.

He deserved the embarrassment. Maybe when it came back to him she'd finally start to forgive him.

He ran into her, by chance, one day. It wasn't as lucky as he played it out - she'd posted this cafe on her social media once or twice, and then he started to go there more often, in hopes this would happen. Maybe not quite like this. She was on her way out, he was on his way in, and in their rush, they collided. And her hot coffee spilled all over his pressed white shirt. She apologised profusely without even looking at his face, using her hand to wipe the shirt. But it was only making things worse. And she still hadn't noticed it was him.

"Well, this is embarrassing." He mused, the same stupid lop-sided grin painted all over his face.
