Near is a talented and gifted child, so, naturally he was given the role to be one of L's potential sucessors. However, as many know, he has absolutely no social skills. He always keeps to himself, doesn't go out to play with others, and most definitely does not share his toys.

however, he's been acting quite unusual the past few weeks. He's been avoiding people more often, especially the group you were in. instead he's been hanging around Rodger and Watari. He's also started to complain about how he feels weird.

he just... doesn't know how to explain it. He wants to be near you, but also as far away from you as he could... he wants you to play with him but he also doesn't want you to. He wants to get to know you but fears you won't like him.

"do you perhaps have a crush on them?" Watari would ask Near gently, being careful as to not to make him upset.

a.. crush? he couldn't possibly have a crush on someone like- like you! I mean, you weren't nearly as smart or... or- you- you weren't even one of L's successors! That's pathetic...! But.. what if he does have a crush on you...?

the orphanage was pretty quiet today as you headed to the kitchen for breakfast while fiddling with your shirt buttons. It was quite early, hence why the room was almost empty. Soon, you sat down at an empty table with your plate and started eating. However, you were so rudely interrupted by a tug on your sleeve, prompting you to look over to what or who it was.

you were very surprised to see... Near, staring into your soul with his sharp gaze while still tugging impatiently on your sleeve. His other hand held a toy robot, his hand grasping a little too tightly around it.

"I want you to play with me." it sounded more like a demand than a request. You could see the little area where he played with all his toys, and a little spot where the two of you could sit and play together.
