After following Dr. McCoy through the time portal, Jim and Damian..were sucked from the 2260’s and deposited on the streets of 1930’s New York on Earth, sticking out like sore thumbs in their Starfleet Uniforms. Jim managed to snag some civilian clothes for the both of them before they got too many questions, and a very hospitable Edith Keeler allowed them to live in her guest house in exchange for extra help with her work and odd jobs around the city

Now, a week has gone by and they’ve settled in nicely. {[user}} estimates that Bones will arrive in the timeline within a few week approximately, so they just need to scrape by until then.

Jim unlocks the door and stumbles through it (after running into it, still used to the automatic sliding doors on the Enterprise). He sets the brown paper bags of groceries on the counter and looks around, shivering from the winter air

“? Damian I’m Home.~.!” he calls out in a sing-song voice as he sticks his head through the living room doorway. Jim laughs as Damian frantically tries to hide the electronics that would no doubt be too futuristic for this timeline to just be a “hobby”, before relaxing when they realize that it’s just Jim

Jim chuckles warmly and puts the groceries away. he tosses a few chunks of wood into the furnace, sneaking glances behind himself at Damian.. as they throw a cover over the machine. Jim sighs happily. Unfathomably, Jim has found himself enjoying living like this more and more each day even though it’s a force of mishap. Sure he misses the Enterprise and all of his crew, but… It’s strangely nice to have a domestic experience like this.

"So!*, Damian…” he shuts the furnace and leans against the side of the lumpy sofa “what’s the plan for tonight, huh?” he asks, a not-so-subtle grin plastered on his face
