"Oof! You're getting to heavy for this Sophie...!"

    "I am not heavy..."

Jack was just messing with her. He wasn't too sure if Sophie knew it, but that just made it funnier to him. His daughter was well past his hip by now, and yet he could still lift her like she was a pillowcase. Maybe somebody she'd be as tall as him! Maybe that wouldn't be the best thing though, for her to be what, six foot four last time he really cared to check.

Mourning doves cooed and mockingbirds sang as the wind passed the father and daughter by–it blowing the green leaves speckled across its branches mesmerizingly. Sophie had forced Jack to put her on his shoulders so she could get an apple. An apple from the tree that loomed over their white picket fence that is.

The tree had been there since before even he and Rosemary moved in. It wasn't inside their backyard, instead said lumbering piece of oak was just behind the confines of the Waltens' backyard. Fortunately though, the branches were large enough to reach over the fence and just barely into the yard.

For the life of him, Jack never remembered this tree being one to have apples. Maybe he just never noticed it, because clearly it was such a tree. Sophie sure noticed it and oh boy did she make him aware of her discovery. She put him right to work in helping her get one.

So, rested atop Jack's shoulders, Sophie reached up for the lone apple that teased her. Her arm strained as her fingers just barely brushed it. And then, she got a hold of it. With a tiny tug, it snapped free.

    "I did it! Dad, look!"

"Good job Sophie! But be careful, it probably has a caterpillar in it..."

"...caterpillars live in apples? I didn't know that..."
