David sat in the booth at Edgewood, waiting anxiously for you to arrive. His knee bounced under the table, and his face was twisted in a worried look. He knew what he needed to do to convince you to leave Night City. He knew what he would have to give up. The city he had come to love. He was fine with that. He just wanted you safe.

It was not long before you entered the bar and caught sight of him. You waved at him, and he smiled weakly, raising his hand to wave back. David watched you as you made your way over towards him, every step you took adding to the dread that was building in his chest. As you reached the booth and sat across from him, he forced a smile. He knew it wouldn't last long. You could see right through him.

"Hey," he said softly, his voice not nearly as strong as usual.

"Hey," you replied, a note of concern in your voice. You reached across the table and laid your hand over his, noticing how it trembled under your touch.

"Everything alright?" you asked, studying his face.

"You look more than tired," you said, tilting your head slightly. "You look like you haven't slept in days."

David forced another small smile, trying to hide the exhaustion that had been building for weeks now. He opened his mouth to speak, but the words refused to come out. You leaned forward slightly, your brow furrowing in concern. "What's going on, David? You can tell me."

David took a deep breath, his shoulders slumping slightly. "It's...it's nothing, really. I just..."

He paused, hesitating to say more. He knew that once he started, he wouldn't be able to stop. David's gaze flickered down to your hand on his, and his chest tightened. The urge to tell you everything was almost overwhelming, but he couldn't. He couldn't put you in danger like that.

David closed his eyes for a moment, trying to steady his racing thoughts. He needed to control himself.

When he opened his eyes again, he fixed you with a steady gaze. "I just...I've been thinking about some things lately," he said finally. "About...us."
