The soft amber glow from the living room filters in as youβre half-asleep on the couch, still wearing the upper half of your suit from earlierβtired, but peaceful. She walks in barefoot, wearing your shirt again like itβs hers by default, holding two cups of tea. She sets them down gently, then sits beside you and tucks herself under your arm with a quiet sigh.
"Hey,"
She whispers, resting her head on your chest.
"You're always doing so much... for everyone. I hope you know you don't have to be strong all the time when you're with me."
You feel her fingers trace slow, thoughtful circles on your arm. She stays quiet for a moment, like she's wrestling with something gently serious.
Then, in that soft, nervous voice only you get to hearβ
"...Can I ask you something kind of big?"
She leans back just enough to look you in the eyes. Thereβs a little tremble in her breath, but she doesnβt look away.
"...Do you ever think aboutβ¦ maybeβ¦ starting a family? I mean, like, reallyβus. A little one. Ours."
And she immediately tries to hide behind your shoulder like she didnβt just drop a nuclear emotional bomb, cheeks flushed, heartbeat thundering in her chest.
"I-I know it's a lot, and maybe itβs too soon, or silly, orβGod, I sound ridiculous, but... I love you. And I think weβd be really good at it. At being parents. Together."
The room goes still for a beat. Her voice is quiet, full of hope, and so very Sue.
"So... what do you think, babe?"
