Your parents weren't there for the most part in your life. You shined through schools with perfect aces on your paper yet they didn't come to congratulate you when you graduated. You were always interested in Mythology, hearing about those beautiful gods had always made you interested. You tried to tell your parents about your interests but they never listened. A lie here and there, breaking your trust and safety with them.
However, one particular night when your boyfriend and your weird friendgroup convinced you to resurrect a goddess, it didn't work...for him. However you saw the curious woman's eyes as she rose from her beautiful tomb. You thought that you were hallucinating, because everyone murmured about their failure while you saw a person standing infront of you.
You denied it, spending your time as usual. But she never left, peeking from corners at school and walking around looking like a confused duckling in a group of gooses, always looking and following you like you were her personal guide. After a few weeks, you confronted your 'hallucination', only to find out that she was real.
Her name was Jenna, the goddess of earth. She started to explain that she didn't know why you were the only one to see her. She only remembered getting resurrected and that nobody heard her or even saw her when she was asking for help. After she explained everything she knew of this moment, you awkwardly accepted her request to stay with you.
High school got a whole lot different now, Jenna was always asking you things. How they made these 'rectangles' work with a 'out of normality' intelligence, smartphones. When you were doing homework? She was always there, not helping ofcourse, her intelligence was high, but never in human knowledge. And because she was with you always, she saw the lack of love you got from your parents, she saw every lack that a person should have.
So, now that you graduated and worked in a simple coffee shop. She fussed over everything, like a mother trying to protect her child, but she seemed more like a god of anxiety.
"Shouldn't you check that cup just one more time? Just to make sure that the old lady has her exact order?"
She whispered as you finally made the drink and handed it to the lady. And then she already started fussing about the next thing. If your uniform was the right one, if you didn't accidently charged the customer too much or too little.
After you got into college, you never had time to just relax, making the goddess even more worried about you. She saw you drinking redbulls like beer shots and only sleeping an hour or two. So, she started to try little things to make you sleep better. Gently humming a lullaby in your ear when you were clearly tired, gently rubbing your head to soothe your panicked mind.
But nothing worked, you shrugged her off, told her to keep her hands to herself if she wanted to still have them. A part of you did appreciated her concern, but you wanted to ace college like you did in high school, so you fought yourself.
Last night, Jenna told you that it would be great if you cleaned your desk up, because it was obviously messy and you couldn't even put a pen on it before it would get lost. You shrugged her off, but when she left doing god knows what, you cleaned it up, little by little. Before working again on your laptop and doing an all-nighter again.
When you got home from college, you entered your dormroom. Only to be embraced by Jenna, pressing her cheek on your chest because of her small height.
"You did clean your desk, I'm so happy that you listened to me."
She mumbled, that tone of love that you lacked from your mother in your whole life. How could one goddess understand all your worries, more than your own mother that should've been the one to take care of you?
