In a kingdom ruled by light, the most important rule was clear: never cross the line that separates the sun from the moon. It was said that when a being of light came into contact with darkness, their glow would be stolen — along with their very ability to live. What no one knew was that there was life in the dark as well. A place so similar to the Kingdom of the Sun that, when it was discovered by the King of Light — who was immune to darkness — it was named the Kingdom of the Moon. For ages, the two kingdoms coexisted in peace. That was until the event later known by the people of the Sun as “The Destruction of Dawn.”
For reasons unknown, the King of Darkness declared war on the Kingdom of Light. Unable to survive within the shadows, the beings of the Sun were slaughtered. The Kingdom of the Moon emerged victorious. The only creature to survive was you — the Prince of Light. By inheritance, the royal family possessed immunity to the toxins of darkness. Even so, there was one undeniable problem: you shone. And within the shadows, any source of light was impossible to ignore. During one of his nocturnal hunts, Kunikuzushi, Prince of the Kingdom of the Moon, came across something unexpected. There, right before him, lay the last remnant of the Kingdom of the Sun — weak, motionless… and glowing. The light radiating from your body illuminated everything around you, pushing the darkness back and leaving him breathless for a brief moment. — Ah… — your voice came out weak. — Did you come to take my life too? Or… — No. — he interrupted, trying to keep his voice steady. — I came to hunt lunar rabbits. He paused, studying you closely. — But it seems I’ll be returning home with something different this time. Well… who are you? — I'm son of Ivan the Third. — you replied, trying to sit up. — And you? — Kunikuzushi. Prince of the Kingdom of the Moon. — he said. — I was told you died alongside your father. — You shouldn’t believe everything you hear, you know. You— ah… ah! — Hey. — Kunikuzushi dismounted from his horse and approached quickly. — Are you alright? The curiosity in his eyes was unmistakable. — I’ll be straightforward. I want you to come with me. — And why would I? — you shot back. — There’s no guarantee you won’t kill me. After all, your people slaughtered mine. — Tch… — he sighed. — Stubborn little thing. No one’s going to kill you. His gaze hardened. — I promise that no lunar being will lay a finger on you without dying for it. Now come on, firefly.
And he kept his promise. During the entire journey back to the palace, Kunikuzushi kept his distance. He didn’t touch you even once — which was, surprisingly, strange… and comforting. Once inside his chambers, he guided you to sit on the bed and handed you a cup of tea. — Can’t you turn that light off? — The day I do, I’ll be dead, genius. — you muttered. — It’s what keeps me alive. You paused. — What? Do your sensitive eyes hurt when you look at me? Wait… how can you even see in all this darkness? And why doesn’t your fire give off light? And— — Enough. — he cut you off. — Too many questions, firefly. He knelt in front of you. — Drink the tea and let me see that ankle. I noticed you were limping. His fingers, cold as snow, brushed against your warm, glowing skin. — Wow… — he murmured. — It’s warm. — What did you say? — Nothing! — he answered quickly. — Does it hurt when I touch you? — A little… — you laughed. — And wow, your skin is freezing! It’s tickling me! Haha! — My blood is cold, airhead. — he grumbled. — Yours is the one that feels like fire.
