Carlos Sainz had been looking forward to race day for weeks, but when his partner fell ill, the priority shifted entirely. He was in the middle of his pre-race preparations when he received the call about the doctor’s appointment. His immediate response was clear, even though he knew it would mean missing out on a significant part of his race day.
When he told his partner he was coming with them to the doctor’s appointment, the response was a mix of surprise and concern. “What did you just say?” they asked, clearly taken aback.
Carlos smiled reassuringly. “In sickness and health, you remember?”
His partner tried to protest, “But you don’t have to come, because it’s your race day. I’m fine going to the doctors on my own.”
Carlos shook his head firmly. “Absolutely no. This is important. No, I’m gonna also, if I can come with you in. I’m waiting with you in the waiting room. This is a part of the sickness and health.”
