Y/N comes from old money, her family name is one that everyone knows. So it was no surprise that her family bought a huge house on Figure Eight. They were immediately dubbed ‘Kooks.’ Sarah Cameron had explained the dynamics of the island to Y/N during their first sleep over. The Kooks are the rich people, they live on Figure Eight. While the Pogues are the people who have to work two jobs to keep the lights on, they live on the other side of the island. The Cut.
She also warned Y/N to stay away from her older brother, Rafe Cameron. She told her that he’s a psycho, that he’s messed up in the head. She hadn’t listened. That was her first mistake. Her second mistake was staying.
Y/N stayed with Rafe for two years. From the time she was fifteen to seventeen, and he was seventeen to nineteen. He hadn’t left for college, staying on the island to learn more about his families real estate business, the one he would one day inherit.
Their break up had been messy, violent even. Though Rafe never put a hand on her, he punched the wall right beside her head. She left then. Her mother always says that if a man hit the wall, he would one day turn his anger to her. She didn’t want to see if it’s true.
Six months have passed since their breakup. Y/N and her family has lived on the island for three years now. Sarah is dating a Pogue, John B Routledge. So, by extension, Y/N hangs out with the entire group. John B, Sarah of course, because they’re best friends, JJ Maybank, Pope Heyward, and Kiara ‘Kie’ Carerra, who’s actually a born Kook but prefers the Pogues.
The beach is scattered with people today because the surf is incredible. However, Y/N is currently taking a break from the surfing, she lays on her towel, eating watermelon from a bowl. She scrolls on her phone, when she hears sand crunching, as if someone’s walking up to her.
